Thanks Don, I take it that Mediazona is a Russian reporting group

Exactly.

Russian independent media outlet focused on Anti Putinist opposition that was founded by Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, who are also co-founders of the protest group and band Pussy Riot. Mediazona focuses on the judicial, law enforcement and penal system in Russia. It works in partnership with Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova's advocacy group, Zona Prava ("Zone of Justice", or "Zone of Rights"), which works to protect prisoners' rights.

Yes, but besides this, the information was confirmed already a year ago by Prigozhin and also his commanders. For example in this message on 19th July 2023, (https://t.me/razgruzka_vagnera/240):

"I can’t say where the 33 thousand people who went to the Ministry of Defense came from. Here's the real math. In total, 78 thousand soldiers of the Wagner PMC passed through the Ukrainian mission. Of these, 49 thousand are prisoners from camps. At the time of the capture of Bakhmut (May 20), 22 thousand soldiers were killed and 40 thousand wounded. 25 thousand are alive and well, plus the wounded are being treated. Of these, up to 10 thousand have left and are leaving for Belarus. 15 thousand have already gone on vacation. I still don’t know how the 33 thousand who joined the military were formed. If all those killed and those who went on leave signed contracts, then this is possible. Can't argue with that."

Thanks for the update. Lots of AWOL. Could that be soldiers that have been killed/missing in action?

The figures posted were just for criminal cases.

This might sound strange to a European who is used to adhering to American rules, but normally, the visitors adhere to the host country's rules, not the other way around.
