"According to the Czech President, the country’s representatives managed to find about 500,000 155-mm artillery shells and 300,000 122-mm shells abroad.
He added that they could be transported to Ukraine in a matter of weeks if funding is secured quickly.
... However, he did not specify in which countries these hundreds of thousands of artillery munitions, which Ukraine needs to repel Russian aggression, are located."
It will be pretty ridiculous if something available today can't be used due to whatever will be available much, much later. Let's see where this thing goes, if anywhere!
It is notable, though, that the article mentions several different partners being negotiated with aside from the EU...
Ah! I was wondering what the total price tag was since it didn't seem to be included in any article. (Is the $2,500 a piece for new artillery or can it be lower for existing supplies?)
Minor addition to the scandal in Hungary: it didn't happen just because the president granted clemency to a person involved in pedophilia - it happened because the ruling party, like Putin, bases its propaganda on open homophobia, which they explain by "the need to protect children from aberrations". The need is apparently not so pressing when it's about on of their own. The protest was more of 100 000+ people - it doesn't matter much either way, though the regime may be forced to scale up animosity with one of its other enemies to divert public attention. Ukraine is concerned it may be them, although it's unclear how Orban could be more harmful than he is now.
Regarding Armenia / Azerbaijan, I understand those exclaves around the border fell thirty years ago, during the first war, no? As for the corridor, Aliyev could act like a statesman and offer some parts of Karabah in exchange, seeing how a brute-force conquest would not be recognized internationally any more than the Armenian occupation was. Can't really imagine him doing that, though.
By the way the news here rather should be that governing party Fidesz signed a letter to support NATO accession of Sweden. Parliament agenda for next week will be fixed today and most likely they will vote on the accession on February 26 as the final country. The problem is that the anti-NATO Speaker will have to countersign it in the absence of a President. He can prolong a bit the process, but can't stop it.
Ah, American partisan politics. The discharge petition could have been started weeks ago - in time to prevent Avdiivka's fall.
Any competent president of the past, especially a vaunted insider and glad-hander like Biden, could have used personal influence to get enough moderate GOP types in the House (there are about 100) to vote for it over Johnson's opposition. It's an election year, when all moderates want to pretend they're brave lonely voices pushing back against extremists on both sides.
Why didn't Biden make this play? Because Bidenworld needs to associate all Republicans with the MAGA set as part of its re-election strategy.
Welcome to D.C., folks. Where everything good goes to die or be twisted into something unrecognizable. Yes, Biden Democrats can and will sacrifice Ukrainian soldiers' lives on the altar of politics.
Well, when watching a satire you aren't supposed to go after the movie/show and replicate the actions of the protagonist/antagonist for your own profit...
The Senate creates a bi-partisan immigration bill and the Republican House won't bring it to a vote. The Senate creates a bi-partisan defence bill for Ukraine, Israel and Pacific partners and the Republican House won't bring it up for a vote. And this is somehow Biden's fault.
The EU has approved the funding for Ukraine 2 weeks ago. With the money they could have bought ammunition from the US if only lack of money was the problem. So, what is actually the problem?
Thank you very much/ Very, very interesting.
Such a variety of angles to follow! Thanks for the efforts

Thanks again Don, invaluable reporting.
On the Equipment scene, this may be of interest:

Quite intriguing, if true. Let's hope that it comes to fruition
France, Greece and Cyprus oppose it.

And politics rears its ugly head once again.

That seems to be the go-to option when there is isolated opposition in the EU.
Reportedly Canada is ready to provide financing for the deal (according to 'sources', so take it with the necessary amount of salt):
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ukraine-russia-canada-artillery-shells-1.7120329
Canada is committing $30 million and Denmark is committing $250 million. To buy all 800k shells would be $2 billion.

True. It's still on the maps but functionally they have been absorbed. The desired corridor to Nakhchivan is still an issue.
Wow , in case of Hungary even government was not talking about 10.000. It was around 150.000. Good job AP

It feels like we're watching "House of cards", live.
And I thought that was a satire, not a user manual.
Is there a difference?
Well, when watching a satire you aren't supposed to go after the movie/show and replicate the actions of the protagonist/antagonist for your own profit...
Was not Trump inspired by The Simpsons' prophesying his presidency?
Or Putin by the same show's episode on the restoration of USSR?
They don't need a cartoon show to get inspiration for their actions.
Their ego is huge enough to act on their own without believing satirists as prophets.
