Presumably it was the anti-ship version so the small hole in the side was due to the penetrating charge and the hole in the top was caused by the subsequent huge explosion inside the sub, pity there are no inside photos.
True but the metal around the hole in the side seems to be mostly bent in whereas at the top it seems to be mostly bent out.
I did not mean to imply it went upwards.
So far as I understand this missile it has a small charge at the front to pierce a hole in the ship then the mass of the explosive enters through the hole and explodes. This then blows out the weakest part of the hull which happened to be at the top.
Splitting in 3 parts is good idea - as together with all the links (even if one does not follow up with all of them), it takes quite some time to read.
Many thanks Tom and Don for the update. I don’t mind that it was split in three parts (or more if needed), because every portion is full of food for thought.
Hope the renewal of hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh was included as a topic, IMHO it’s absolutely related to the consequences of Russian aggression against Ukraine, so it’s good to have an eye on it. Kudos, men!
And another thanks!
:-)
Thank you so very much.
I like the format. Especially compiling and linking all the combat footage pieces in social media to certain areas / battles on the front.
The technical and political summaries are a nice touch as well.
Good cooperation, looking forward to more.
A couple of photos of the "lightly damaged" submarine rostov-on-don

Basically a flesh wound - nothing happened (Movie: Last action hero).
Only funny if you know the movie.
....just a flesh wound.... :P

Somehow, by best will: can't imagine how should any kind of a missile hit the centre-side of a ship in a dry dock, and then go upwards....?
It must've been the other way around?

Of course this might be nonsense.
The sub can still bite your legs off.
....if one stumbles into a big-enough piece of wreckage.... ;-)
Ukraine military budget is CERTAINLY not $6bln Tom
It's around $30bln
https://mof.gov.ua/en/budget_2023-582
239.2 bn UAH (Jan-Jul 2023) / 37 (USD to UAH conversion rate) = 6.5 bn USD
show me a source, you are inventing numbers
https://mof.gov.ua/storage/files/6_ConsolidatedBudget_7_2023-en.xlsx
How comes? It has "2023" in the title and text.
sorry, I'll investigate, checked it from the phone the first time. have no laptop around now
but still, it's 239 uah bln in Feb'23 only.
it's 239 uah bln in Feb'23 only
add all the rest of the months
it's 1039 uah bln for Jan-Jul, and it's not a budget, it's expences within half a year. the budget is bigger.
Makes sense, thanks.
thank you so much for this series. It adds a lot.

Does anyone have a reliable link to donate to the 3'rd assault?
found it, never mind
