Thanks Benjamin.

Here in Norway we, of course, went with the F-35. It will drain our military budgets as it's extremely expensive to purchase and operate. There is no chance that our politicians will switch them out.

We're buying frigates next, the US alternative is the worst choice, and may no be built anytime soon since the US has no yard capacity, and (of course) strong voices are clamoring for the US alternative. The only hope we have is that 47's unpopularity and erratic behavior leads us to a European alternative.

True. But for frigates I don’t think we will choose US now. UK or Germany. The good news is that since these systems are so expensive we will never buy another. So let’s modernize by buying drones from Ukraine. First invest in drone developers and producers. Then buy drones. And dumb down the F35.

100%, the British alternative seems like a good choice, but I'm not very familiar with the options. Definitely don't want the US alternative, if for no other reason that there's no way they'll be built in any reasonable time frame, we've got to start buying European whenever possible.

As to never buying again, not very long ago that we commissioned the current Nansen class, the last of them entered service in 2011, so never again is 14-20 years.

We should push for greater autonomy on the F-35 but I don't see that happening.

Listened to Eirik Kristoffersen (Chief of Defence Norway) yesterday, he didn't want to buy lots of drones for storage. Since the innovation is so fast paced, drones in stock could be outdated two weeks after production. That leaves investing in the developers and producers, which he intimated was the plan.

Thank you! When I read a number of coutries were considering canceling orders for a plane that US could mess with, it made no sense why anyone would buy into it.

Real question I see is, is the F35 worth it. Can an F16 or its equivalent serve purposes at hand without going to an aircraft extremely designed and extremely expensive. Might be informative to know just what those capabilities are in reference to its predecessor. Not that I plan to go out and buy one, but at least some of F35 assets could be part of the general discussion of suitability, Hans Torvatn comment here on drones an example of that public input.
