These vessels delivered tons of military equipment and supplies from Russia to Crimea, Mariupol and Berdyansk, and Russia has been relying on them more than the Kerch rail bridge. While a potent symbol, the need to destroy the Kerch bridge has been reduced. It is also a difficult target. When the German generals were discussing sending Taurus missiles to Ukraine they planned on a two-week course to teach the Ukrainians how to hit a supply dump with the missile, and a four-month course to learn how to hit a bridge. “Germany would need to provide Ukraine with centralized, image-based mission planning data, as well as elevation models.
