In a strategic sense there's no benefit to losing ground. In a tactical sense, some ground enhances your combat power so it makes sense to defend it. Some ground reduces your combat power so it makes sense to withdraw to more favorable ground. The benefits of the ground can change with the circumstances. Vuhledar, for instance, is an excellent defensive position and Ukraine has destroyed a lot of Russian equipment and soldiers in front of it. But if it becomes surrounded, then it's no longer a good position and it would make sense to withdraw.
There are paved roads and bridges that make transporting supplies easier and there are dirt roads that make trasnporting supplies possible, if not easy, during the rainy season. Ultimately, Pokrovsk and Toretsk is just terrain, even though so many used to call it home. If it has critical factories that supported the war effort then the loss of terrain would have a bigger impact on production. As it is, Pokrovsk's Toretsk's contribution to the general economy is being disrupted and it would take some time before that economic contribution is regained as people settle elsewhere.
Other than that, it is terrain which provides good defenses for Ukraine, until it no loger does, and it provides roads for Ukraine, until other roads need to be used instead.
Знов про "окопний РЕБ 3 штурмової бригади". 3 штурмова один з найкращих підрозділів. І засоби РЕБ дійсно були на тому напрямку, і дуже потужні, але як на мене то аж ніяк не окопні. Але добре подумавши, не факт що то були засоби саме 3 штурмової. Та і невже хтось справді вірить, що окопний РеБ здатен стримати наступ в полосі кілька кілометрів? Але, якби там не було, 68 виявилась неготова до того, з чим зіткнулась без прикриття РЕБ. В таких умовах утримати свої позиції жодна піхота не зможе. Росіяни розвалюють дронами будь-які виявлені піхотні позиції. Якщо треба буде в один окоп з одним піхотинцем вкинуть і 50 дронів. Бачив це. Українці, доречі роблять так само, коли можуть. Зрозумійте, українські дрони за умов нестачі боєприпасів, виконують більшу частину вогневих задач, від знищення піхоти до враження техніки. Але за останні півроку росіяни, за допомогою китайської промисловості значно покращили прикриття своїх людей РЕБом і можливостей для враження для українських дронів стало значно менше. Більше того всі китайські новинки в ФПВ з'являються спочатку масово в російських військах, і тільки потім у продажу! Наприклад зараз росіяни масово почали використовувати ударні дрони на частотах 190МГц-380МГц. РЕБа для таких частот у українців немає. Тому українські дрони відстають за якістю і новизною. Така китайська допомога дає в підсумку можливість росіянам давити українськи дрони і самим активно знищувати наші позиції їх дронами. А для придушення їх РЕБу, знищення їх пілотних груп знов таки потрібна артилерія і міномети, а їх не достатньо.
I don't think it's a problem that the 3rd Assault took their EW equipment with them, it's a problem that the EW equipment isn't standard for all Ukrainian units. That goes back primarily to western aid, and whatever role Ukraine's government has in the matter. And, yes, there should be solutions for whatever frequency Russia is using.
The 68th held the line behind the small river they were defending, although it cost them a lot of casualties. It wasn't until the disaster at Ochertyne that their position eventually became untenable.
Not that I'd publish them, but I'd love to see the equipment and methods that some Ukrainian drone teams use, such as flying through a house without losing the signal, as I've seen in some of Magyar's posts. Even with a repeater drone in the area, that's pretty impressive.
Trying to establish a new culture in the army in the middle of war is going to be difficult. I get that. But there are so many basic concepts that should be standard right now and it's very frustrating to observe.
