For example: north of Kyiv, early on, yes, the VSRF was limited to one road - due to marshes and soft soil, but then because it was in a mad rush to get to Kyiv. Even then, the 35th CAA quickly established a 'bridgehead' south of Ivankiv, and then the terrain was less of a problem (definitely far less so than the all the 'wildly roaming volunteers').
...the only other area I know weather and soil played an important role was the south, i.e. Zaporizhzhya, where the 58th couldn't outmanoeuvre defences because of the soft soil.
