M777 is, like the mass of all of NATO's post-mid-1970s artillery, based on designs by Gerald Bull.
He was a Canadian weapons designer, emphasising development of artillery systems as a solution for almost everything - up to launching satellites into the orbit. Ironically, while boasting the development of the US, Israeli, and South African (and then that of the NATO) for several decades in advance, he was assassinated by the Israelis in 1990, for helping Iraqis develop missiles capable of reaching the orbit...
Point is this: all of Bull-designed 155mm howitzers can shoot projectiles capable of reaching 40+ km.
....and Excalibur is not the only such projectile on the market. On the contrary, there is a wide ragne of shells calibre 155mm available on the market, anywhere from Santiago de Chile to Singapore and Sydney...
I've mentioned it already, so this is no 'bragging', just a reminder: due to my profession I happen to be in touch with numerous arms dealders on several continents. All are busy - for 3,5 months alreadys - getting and hauling all sorts of arms and ammo to Ukraine, 24/7 (and that on behalf of a 'wide range of customers').
Let me conclude it this way: thinking all the arms dealers in question can get is 'just Glocks, Kalashnikovs and 7.62mm bullets'.... is an illusion.
