Let me remind you that I'm living in a country that is widely considered as 'most politically corrupt in the EU' - at least here in the EU.
The country in question is Austria and, gauging alone by the sheer number of 'affairs' and prosecutions of our top politicians by the judiciary here, not only are all such conclusions 'right on the money', but our oligarchy is eyebrows-deep into attempting to dismantle our pluralism and democracy.

Point is: corruption is endemic - so also in 'democratic' countries. Except for Austria, USA is probably the next best example. Means not we have to give in to it: one can't have a pluralist political system without a permanent control.
