Correspondingly, any summary execution of them is a war crime.

Let me remind you that Croatia paid a deft price for ignoring this fact when liberating large parts of itself from Serbian occupation.

Ignoring such facts is certain to prove extremely costly for Ukraine, too.

Mistreatment of civilians and combatants was, so far, the primary difference between the Russians and Ukrainians in this war. The moment the ZSU starts mistreating captured combatants, that difference is disappearing.
