Moreover, based on experiences from Syria, he is not negotiating 'for peace', but to buy time. Whoever is then dumb enough to agree some sort of cease-fire with him, is only granting him that time.
IMHO, Ukraine has next to no other options but to continue defeating the Russian Armed Forces on the battlefield. Only such results might force Putin into admitting anything like a defeat (even if he would never do so in the public).
