Hm... I'm optimistic and positive about Ukraine since 2-3 days into the war: as soon as it became clear that, yes, Ukrainians are going to fight, and then seriously, too. That's why - as is easy to find out if you google me a littlebit - I was also one of the first to conclude: Russia cannot win this war.
However, that shouldn't mean that I should become irrational and hype the situation. There was no reason to do so, and there is still no reason to do so. For most of the last 5 months, the situation on the frontlines was nothing but grim for the ZSU.
....and it's still uncertain when and how it might become 'really good'...
In the case of this offensive, the situation is simple: if the aim was 'Kheron in 3 days', then it's a filure. But, since I doubt anybody in Kyiv is as insane as to think that way (gauging by cautious behaviour of the GenStab-U of the last six months: quite on the contrary!), and available indications say something else, then the offensive is 'fine'. Sure, coming forward very slowly, and at a price, but still, 'fine'.
