b) keeping the Russians under pressure, but also

c) singalling them to stay away from Odessa, while

d) imposing attrition.

Then, if nothing else, one can never know if Putin might not come to certain crazy ideas regarding that city.

Moreover, the Russians have meanwhile suffered such losses around this island, they're forced to keep it supplied by speedboats. Thus, it's 'good' to maul them there, time and again, before they bolster their defences too much.
