Russia launched more attacks into the canal district and lost at least 16 vehicles in the process. When they manage to insert infantry into the city the Kraken sends out teams to eliminate them with drones and close assault. There is one report that says Russia took some buildings on the high ground of eastern Kalynivka and another that said a Ukrainian counter attack pushed them back far enough that Ukraine is in the western edge of Bohdanivka. South of the canal district, Russian infantry is once again moving towards the canal.
Klishchiivka is undefendable. There are only a couple basements left in the entire village. There are reports that some Russians have refused to enter the village. The Russians that do enter number 4-8 at a time and are hunted by drones. A Russian turtle tank dropped four infantry off and was then hounded by drones. At one point, the rear of the tank was on fire, but it kept on driving out of the village.
This is where the turtle tank dropped off the infantry and then went into the white building. If you turn around, you’ll see the village church across the streets and the heights beyond it. Now imagine all the trees are gone and 95% of the houses are flattened and their basements are no longer accessible. The heights not only are a good observation point, they provide the line of sight needed for drone operators to communicate with their drones.
Given the incredibly heavy Russian bombardments, Ukraine doesn’t use a traditional linear defense in the canal district of Chasiv Yar. They use artillery and drones to attrit Russian vehicles and infantry approaching the city. The surviving Russian infantry take cover in various buildings and the surviving vehicles withdraw and are attacked on the return trip, as well. Then the Ukrainian Kraken infantry emerge from cover and eliminate the Russian infantry. In last week’s Update there was a map illustrating a 20 vehicle attack on Chasiv Yar on May 17th. The text says that 10 Russian vehicles were destroyed but Andrew Perpetua has geolocated video showing there were 16 vehicles destroyed. The video of Russians driving on a curved road is the northern assault taking the main road into the canal district. Videos of Russians driving along the edge of a forest or treelines is the southern assault. The Russian infantry that reached the city were killed or captured. Russia is trying to expand towards the north and northwest. The northwestern advances are hindered because of the 47th Brigades attacks on Soloviove where they’ve retaken some treelines. This activity prevented the Russians from expanding west and southwest, which would put even more pressure on Ukrainian units defending to the northwest. It came at the cost of Bradley’s being damaged or destroyed, but 15 Russian armored vehicles were lost in this area alone.
